Why Classic Hire
Why Classic Hire For Compactor & Roller Hire In Perth
Proper compaction stops sand, soil and road base settling under driveways, paving, slabs and retaining walls. Classic Hire supplies builders, landscapers, civil contractors and DIYers with serviced, site-ready compaction equipment, plus the advice to match the right machine to the job.
Compactor or roller?
Plate compactors suit sand, gravel and paving beds, while forward/reverse plates handle backfill, house pads and sub-bases. A vertical rammer delivers concentrated impact for clay and narrow trenches. Rollers take over on larger areas: a pedestrian roller for paths and parking bays, a trench roller for pipelines, and a ride-on twin drum roller for road bedding, limestone driveways and asphalt finishing.
The compaction range
- Plate compactors: 60kg and 79kg plates for paving, bricks and bedding sand

Compactor & Roller Hire FAQ's
Plate compactors are compact and manoeuvrable, so they suit paving beds, paths and smaller areas of sand and gravel. Rollers cover larger areas faster and leave a smoother finish on road base, limestone and asphalt. Many jobs use both.
Plate compactors cover wider surface areas and work best on sand, soil and gravel. A vertical rammer delivers concentrated impact for clay, backfill in trenches, footings and excavations.
For paving and bedding sand, a 60kg or 79kg plate. For backfill, sub-bases and house pads, a forward/reverse plate from 356kg to 813kg. For trenches and clay, the vertical rammer or the trench roller. Not sure? Call your nearest branch and we’ll help you choose.
Our 60kg and 79kg plate compactors and the 68kg rammer can be loaded into a ute, van or trailer, ideally by two people. The heavier forward/reverse plates and our rollers are best delivered to site.
